When our co-founders Genevieve Husaruk and Laura Schermeister found out about a rapidly reproducing cat colony in Mendocino County, California, the two cat-loving women knew they could step in to help. A few unaltered felines had reproduced beyond the caretaking abilities of the property's humans. What we thought was a small colony of just eight cats turned out to be more than double that! After four separate trips to the colony with traps in hand, we managed to capture 19 cats in all. Luckily, we had the combined skills to overcome this seemingly impossible feat of capturing them.
Genevieve stepped up and organized spay, neuter, vaccinations, and microchipping so we could responsibly adopt the cats to loving homes. Laura put her design skills to work and built this website to share these adorable cats and our exciting story with the world.
With 19 cats in our care, we received a call from a neighboring business. The colony was actually 20 cats! Because there's always one more...
And that is how Twenty Tails Rescue was born.
At Twenty Tails Rescue, our mission is to provide a sanctuary for homeless and abandoned felines, ensuring their well-being through rescue, rehabilitation, and responsible rehoming. Committed to the belief that every cat deserves a loving home, we strive to reduce the feline population through spaying and neutering initiatives, while also educating the community on responsible pet ownership.
Our purpose extends beyond temporary shelter; we aspire to create a haven where each cat receives personalized care, medical attention, and socialization, fostering an environment conducive to their physical and emotional recovery. Twenty Tails Rescue is dedicated to building a compassionate community that advocates for the welfare of all cats, emphasizing the importance of empathy and understanding towards these vulnerable beings.
Driven by the passion to make a lasting impact, we collaborate with local organizations, volunteers, and veterinarians to create a network of support for our feline friends. Through fundraising efforts and community engagement, we aim to not only rescue and rehome cats but also to inspire a culture of kindness, empathy, and responsibility towards our feline companions. Twenty Tails is not just a rescue organization; it's a commitment to creating a world where every cat finds a purrfect home and where compassion knows no bounds.
