FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

You’ve got questions.
We’ve got answers!

What does fostering involve? Fostering means providing temporary care for a cat in your home until they’re ready for adoption. You’ll feed them, give them love and attention, monitor their health, and help them feel safe and comfortable. Foster periods can range from a few weeks to several months depending on the cat’s needs.

What does Twenty Tails Rescue provide? We provide everything your foster cat needs: food, litter, supplies, medical care, and medications. We also offer 24/7 support and guidance from our experienced foster coordinators. You provide the home, love, and daily care.

How long is the foster commitment? It varies! Kittens may need care for 4-8 weeks until they’re old enough for adoption. Adult cats might need just a few weeks, while those recovering from illness or surgery could need longer. We work with your availability and discuss expected timelines upfront.

Can I foster if I have my own pets? Yes! Many foster families have resident pets. We’ll help match you with a foster cat whose temperament works well with your household. Proper introductions and sometimes temporary separation are important for everyone’s safety and comfort.

Can I foster if I work full-time? Absolutely! Most adult cats do fine while you’re at work. Kittens under 4-6 weeks need feeding every few hours, so those placements work best for people with flexible schedules or who work from home.

What if I fall in love and want to adopt? Foster fails are celebrated! If your foster cat steals your heart, you’ll have first priority to adopt them. Many of our best adoption matches happen this way.

What if my foster cat gets sick? Contact us immediately, and we’ll arrange veterinary care at no cost to you. We cover all medical expenses and will guide you through any care instructions.

Can I choose what type of cat I foster? Yes! We’ll discuss your preferences, experience level, and lifestyle to find the right match. Whether you prefer kittens, adults, or cats with special needs, we’ll work together to find your perfect foster fit.

What if fostering doesn’t work out? We understand that sometimes situations change. If fostering isn’t working for any reason, just let us know and we’ll make alternative arrangements for your foster cat. No judgment, no questions asked.
